One of the most challenging tasks for a sportsman is to get back in shape after the "on cycle". Usually people start thinking about loosing pounds right after the New Year so January can be called the most motivating month of the year. Indeed - to get in shape one has to complete 3-4 months way of diet and cardio "torture". Here are some of the most important points to pay your attention on while on "off cycle". (by WorkoutWorld /

1. Do at least 40 minutes of cardio training per day. Typically our body starts burning fat after 30-35 minutes of continuous cardio training.
2. Make sure your diet plan is ready. Decrease amount of carbohydrates in your meal, concentrate on "slow" carbs with low glycemic index. You can increase daily amount of proteins, don't decrease fats intake but try to stick with vegetable fats. Forget about candies existence and make sure you drink fresh sqeezed juice - nearly all juices on the market have sugar added even it it is not indicated on the package. Consume a lot of water!
Those are basic principles. Of course there are a great deal of additional ways that help you to achieve your goals. Here are several things that you have to remember:
1. Exercise in slow-up-to-medium tempo. Breath freely. Don't run too fast. Measure your heart rate! You must not exceed 70-80% of your heart rate. Here is a simple formula to find out your maximum heart rate:
Female: 226 MINUS YOUR AGE
Male: 220 MINUS YOUR AGE
Explanation: If you are a 30 yo girl, your maximum heart rate will be 226 - 30 = 196 bpm
bpm means "beats per minute". 70% of your maximum heart rate is (YOUR MAXIMUM HEART RATE/100) *70
Example: 196/100*70 = 137 beat per minute
Inhale and exhale deep enough to make sure your lungs have a lot of oxygen. Decent amount of oxygen is very important in fat burning process.
2. Cardio exercise is better to perform in the morning BEFORE your breakfast. After night when all glycogen is gone our body is ready to start using any remaining types of energy and luckily here comes exactly what we need to burn - body fat. Optimal cardio training is around 40-60 minutes per day yet you have to listen to your body and decrease or increase amount of training if need be.
3. It is a good idea to drink some coffeine-rich drinks before cardio routine. It will speed up your "calories burning" training. Note - don't pour sugar or any other carbs, for it will elimenate all effect. If you don't like coffee you can easily replace the drink with 2-3 caffeine tablets (so called "wake-ups") that you can obtain in your local drug store without prescription. Make sure you don't get caffeine overdose - it's better to consult with your doctor. Approximate amount of caffeine to drink is about 150-200 mg.
4. Help your body to get rid of unwanted pounds with the "little help" of fat burning supplements. Make sure you have your doctor's permission to use them! Our advice is to stick with tested by time and many generations of athletes sport nutrition supplements such as L-Carnitine and others. The most effective fat burners are based on Ephedra yet Ephedrine distribution is controlled by the government of the United States and it is nearly imposible to get in in drug stores without a prescription.
Each cardio training routine must be personalized and developed in accordance with your specific abilities. Such things as metabolism, body type and others must be considered so our advice is to consult a professional fitness trainer and dietologist.
